The Druk Wangyel Festival is one of Bhutan's most distinctive cultural celebrations. Held annually on December 13 at the Dochula Pass at 3,140 meters, the festival is performed against the dramatic backdrop of 108 memorial chortens and the snow-covered peaks of the eastern Himalayas. Unlike most Bhutanese tshechus performed by monks in monastery courtyards, the Druk Wangyel mask dances are performed by the Royal Bhutan Army in honor of the Fourth King and the soldiers who served the kingdom.

This seven-day tour is timed entirely around the festival. Begin in Thimphu with the National Institute for 13 Arts and Crafts and the Buddha Dordenma. Drive to Dochula Pass for the festival, then descend into Punakha to explore the magnificent Punakha Dzong. Hike to Chimi Lhakhang, the Temple of Fertility, before returning to Paro for a private archery session and the pilgrimage hike to Tiger's Nest Monastery.
