Husband-and-wife climbing trip — perfectly organised

My wife and I climbed Island Peak together to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We are both experienced trekkers but new to technical climbing. The team's patience during the training at Base Camp gave us both confidence. The summit was hard but achievable. The helicopter back to Kathmandu meant we celebrated with a proper dinner at Dwarika's the same evening instead of being exhausted on the trail. Could not recommend this operator more highly.

The high camp is what makes this trip work

I researched both Island Peak and Lobuche East before booking. What sold me on Alpine Luxury Treks was their insistence on using a proper high camp at 5,600m instead of attempting the summit from Lobuche village. By summit morning, I felt strong because we had not overextended. The Yeti Mountain Home lodges through Namche were exceptional — hot showers and heated rooms at 3,440 meters changed what I thought trekking lodges could be. Worth every additional dollar over budget operators.

A real alpine climb, not a walk-up summit

I had climbed Island Peak two years before and wanted something more technical. Lobuche East delivered exactly that — proper steep ice on the summit headwall, an exposed summit ridge with genuine alpine character, and the satisfaction of a climb that actually felt like climbing. The high camp at 5,600m made all the difference on summit day. Our guide's rope management on the ridge was textbook. Reaching the true summit with Pumori, Cho Oyu, and Everest all visible was unforgettable.

My first 6,000-meter summit and everything was handled

I had trekked to Everest Base Camp three years before and wanted to take the next step. The Alpine Luxury Treks team built the perfect bridge from trekking to climbing. The acclimatization pacing through Namche and Dingboche meant I felt strong on summit day. Our IFMGA guide walked me through every rope technique at Base Camp before we went up. Reaching the summit ridge at sunrise with Lhotse and Makalu in front of me is the proudest moment of my...
