A reasonable level of fitness is required. The helicopter landings at Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar require no physical effort but do expose you briefly to extreme altitude.

Yes. Rapid ascent from lower altitudes to Kala Patthar (5,644m) carries a risk of acute altitude effects even with short exposure. We manage this by spending the first three days at progressively higher elevations (Phakding, Namche, Everest View Hotel) to build partial acclimatization before the helicopter ascent. Helicopter landings at Kala Patthar are brief (10–15 minutes) to minimize exposure. Portable oxygen is carried on all flights. We recommend discussing Diamox with your doctor before travel.
