We provide a fleet of BMW and premium adventure motorcycles configured specifically for plateau riding. Each motorcycle is equipped with three-case storage, crash bars, charging ports for phones and electronics, and proper tire setup for the mixed asphalt and unpaved sections of the Ali South Route. Riders are matched to motorcycles based on experience, height, and riding preference at the Day 2 inspection. The motorcycle is yours for 12 riding days.

Significantly demanding. You ride 8 to 10 hours per day across challenging terrain at altitudes ranging from 3,650 to 5,216 meters. Plateau wind, dust, sun exposure, and cold all add to the cumulative fatigue. Long-distance motorcycling at altitude requires substantially more energy than at sea level. Riders should arrive in peak physical condition and have previously completed multi-day motorcycle expeditions. The cumulative 3,800-kilometer distance over 12 riding days makes this one of the most demanding motorcycle pilgrimages in Asia.

What permits are required for the Lhasa to Everest and Kailash motorcycle Tour?

Four permits are required: the Tibet Travel Permit, the Ngari Area Permit (specifically for Western Tibet), the Everest Base Camp Permit, and a temporary plateau motorcycle riding license. All four permits are arranged by us as part of the expedition booking. The motorcycle riding license additionally requires a notarized Chinese translation of your original motorcycle driving license. We coordinate the translation through licensed translators in Lhasa. Permit processing requires a minimum of 30 days' lead time, so early booking is essential.

What is the accommodation like on the Lhasa to Everest and Kailash expedition route?

Accepted Answer

We provide the best available accommodation throughout, but standards vary dramatically by location. Lhasa and Shigatse offer comfortable hotels suitable for a luxury expedition. Saga, Darchen, Zanda, Purang, and Damxung have basic-to-decent transit hotels — clean and functional but well below five-star standards. The Everest Base Camp accommodation at Rongbuk is the most basic of the entire expedition — a high-altitude lodge with shared facilities and very cold nights. We set expectations honestly. The motorcycle pilgrimage is the reward; comfortable beds exist where they exist.

What happens if I cannot continue the expedition due to altitude or fatigue?

Accepted Answer

Your safety always comes first. If at any point during the expedition you become unable to continue due to altitude sickness, fatigue, injury, or any other reason, the support vehicle transports you to the next overnight stop or to medical facilities as needed. The motorcycle is then transported by the support team. From most points along the route, evacuation to Lhasa or Shigatse for medical care is possible within 6 to 12 hours. We carry oxygen, comprehensive first-aid kits, and maintain communication with rescue services throughout.

What gear must I bring myself for the Lhasa to Everest and Kailash motorcycle expedition?

Accepted Answer

You must bring all personal motorcycle riding gear, including a full-face helmet meeting international safety standards, a protective riding jacket with armor, riding pants with knee and hip armor, motorcycle boots, and riding gloves. We do not provide riding gear because a correct fit is essential for safety. Off-bike clothing for monastery visits and altitude evenings is also your responsibility.
