We arrive in the afternoon for sunset over the sacred waters, stay overnight at an exclusive luxury tent camp on the lake shore with a curated starry sky dinner under one of the most spectacular night skies anywhere on earth, and witness sunrise the following morning. Most other operators arrange a quick visit and continue; we stay overnight to experience both the spiritual and visual climax of the lake.

Can I add the Mount Kailash kora to this tour?

Yes. The traditional Mount Kailash kora is a 3-day pilgrimage circumambulation of the holy mountain on foot, reaching the Drolma La Pass at 5,630 meters. Please let us know at booking that you wish to include the kora, and we will reprogram the itinerary to add appropriate pacing, rest days, and porter support. Adding the kora extends the tour to approximately 16-17 days. The kora is available from May through early October — outside these months, the high passes close due to snow. Walking the Kailash kora is one of the most powerful pilgrimage experiences in Asia and is recommended for travelers with reasonable fitness and prior high-altitude experience.

Can I climb Mount Kailash?

No. Mount Kailash has never been climbed and is considered sacrosanct by all four religions that hold it sacred — Hinduism, Vajrayana Buddhism, Jainism, and Bon. The mountain is closed to mountaineering by deep religious convention. This tour includes darshan (sacred viewing) at the Kailash viewing platform in Darchen, which delivers a clear panoramic view of the holy mountain. The traditional 3-day Kailash kora walks around the mountain at its base but never on the mountain itself.

What permits are required for the Manasarovar Lake Motorcycle Tour?

Four Tibet-specific permits are required beyond the Chinese visa — the Tibet Travel Permit (TTB), the Aliens' Travel Permit (ATP) for prefectures beyond Lhasa, the Military Permit (required for Kailash, Everest, and the Gyirong corridor), and the Border Permit (required for the Kailash region within 20 kilometers of borders and for the Gyirong border crossing). All four are arranged by us as part of the booking. A temporary plateau motorcycle riding license is processed on Day 2 by exchanging your original motorcycle driving license; this requires a notarized Chinese translation, coordinated through licensed translators in Lhasa. Permit processing requires a minimum of 30 days' lead time.

What is the included onward transfer to Kathmandu like?

After exiting Tibet at the Gyirong border on the morning of Day 13, you enter Nepal at Rasuwagadhi and obtain your Nepal tourist visa on arrival. From Rasuwagadhi, our included private transfer continues by vehicle to Kathmandu — approximately 6 to 8 hours through some of Nepal's most dramatic Himalayan terrain. The road descends alongside the Trishuli River, passes traditional Nepali villages, and brings you into the Kathmandu Valley in the evening. The transfer terminates at your Kathmandu hotel. We coordinate hotel booking separately based on your onward plans — we can arrange luxury accommodation in Thamel, the cultural quarter, or near the airport, depending on your next steps.

What happens if there are complications at the Gyirong border crossing?

The Gyirong border has operated as the primary China-Nepal overland crossing since the Kodari border was closed after the 2015 earthquake. Border operations are generally reliable during the operating season, but occasional closures occur due to weather, political events, or administrative reasons. Our team monitors border status continuously and maintains contingency protocols. In the event of a closure on your scheduled departure day, we arrange extended accommodation at the Gyirong Secret Land Hotel and coordinate alternative exit logistics. Your Chinese Group Visa and Tibet Border Permit cover the standard exit at Gyirong. Nepal tourist visas are issued on arrival at the border for most nationalities, with a USD 50 cash payment. Ensure your passport has sufficient blank pages for both the Chinese exit stamp and the Nepal entry stamp.
