The Ura Yakchoe is one of Bhutan's rarest and most authentic festivals. Held in the remote Ura Valley of Bumthang, far from the main tourist circuit, it draws locals from across central Bhutan in traditional dress for days of sacred mask dances, and the display of a revered relic said to have been brought by a celestial being. This nine-day tour is timed entirely around the festival dates and combines two days in Ura with a complete journey through Bhutan's western and central valleys.

Begin in Thimphu with the Buddha Dordenma and Tashichho Dzong. Cross the Dochula Pass to Punakha for the magnificent Punakha Dzong at the confluence of two rivers. Drive east into Bumthang, Bhutan's spiritual heartland, stopping at the ancestral Trongsa Dzong along the way. Spend two full days at the Ura Yakchoe festival. Fly back to Paro by domestic flight to save time, then conclude with the pilgrimage hike to Tiger's Nest.
