Nepal Luxury Itinerary

Seven days gives you three zones and a helicopter. Ten days adds a trek or a wellness program. Twelve days add both. Fourteen days add Mustang or Bardia — the destinations that first-time visitors cannot reach because they run out of days.

Every extra day you give Nepal buys you something specific. This guide shows you exactly what.

Four complete itineraries. Day-by-day tables. What each length includes. What it sacrifices. What it costs. And the honest answer to the question everyone asks: how many days do I actually need?

How Many Days Do You Need? (7, 10, 12, 14 Day Plans)

The Framework: What Each Day Buys

Days

What You Get

1-2

Kathmandu heritage. Arrive. Acclimatise. Dwarika’s. Boudhanath kora. Patan or Bhaktapur cultural program. Krishnarpan dinner.

3

Helicopter Everest. Kala Patthar landing. Champagne breakfast at Hotel Everest View. Return to Kathmandu by lunch. OR: Nagarkot/Dhulikhel valley rim day.

4-5

Pokhara. Fly from Kathmandu. Phewa Lake sunset boat. Sarangkot sunrise. Tiger Mountain or Pavilions Himalayas. Spa recovery.

6-7

Chitwan safari. Meghauli Serai or Barahi. Private Jeep safari. Bush dinner. Tharu dance. Return to Kathmandu for departure.

8-10

ADD: Poon Hill trek (5 days from Pokhara) OR Dhulikhel wellness (3 nights) OR Annapurna foothills (4 days Ker & Downey). The extra days buy physical immersion or deep recovery.

11-12

ADD: Both a trek AND wellness. Or extend Chitwan to 3 nights for serious tiger tracking. Or add Lumbini for the spiritual bookend. The trip stops feeling fast.

13-14

ADD: Mustang (Shinta Mani, 5-night minimum) replacing the Pokhara/trek segment. OR Bardia (Tiger Tops Karnali, walking safaris). OR Gokyo Lakes. The destinations that first-timers miss.

THE HONEST MINIMUM

Seven days is the minimum for a meaningful luxury experience in Nepal. Fewer than seven days means you are rushing between zones without absorbing any of them. If you only have 5 days, do Kathmandu (2 nights) + helicopter to Everest + Chitwan (2 nights) and accept that you are sampling, not experiencing. If you have 3 days, stay in Kathmandu and do the valley properly rather than spreading thin across multiple zones.

10-Day Itinerary: The Golden Triangle + Trek

Day

Location

What Happens

1-2

Kathmandu

Same as 7-day: VIP arrival, Dwarika’s, Boudhanath, Bhaktapur, Patan, Krishnarpan.

3

Helicopter Everest

Same as 7-day. Return to KTM by lunch. Afternoon flight to Pokhara.

4-7

Poon Hill Trek

4 days from Pokhara. Nayapul → Tikhedhunga → Ghorepani (the stairway). Poon Hill sunrise (3,210m). Descent through Ghandruk (Gurung village, momo dinner, dance). Return to Pokhara Day 7.

9-10

Chitwan + Depart

Flight to Chitwan. One-night intensive: dawn Jeep safari, afternoon canoe, bush dinner. Day 10: Return to KTM. VIP departure.

What the extra 3 days buy: the Poon Hill trek. You walk through rhododendron forest, sleep in luxury lodges, and stand at 3,210m watching the sunrise illuminate Dhaulagiri and Annapurna. The Himalayan experience shifts from observation (by helicopter) to immersion (with your feet on the trail). What you sacrifice: Chitwan drops to 1 night (still meaningful but no second safari). Cost: $7,000- $ 10,000 per person.

THE WELLNESS ALTERNATIVE

If trekking is not your priority, replace Days 4-7 with: Day 4: drive to Dwarika’s Resort Dhulikhel (1 hour). Days 4-7: 3-night structured Ayurvedic program (Salt Room, Crystal House, pulse-based dosha consultation, organic meals, mountain-view infinity pool, twice-daily yoga). Day 8: Return to Pokhara for one night. Same Chitwan finish. This version provides deep physiological recovery rather than physical exertion. Same cost.

12-Day Itinerary: Trek + Wellness + Safari

Day

Location

What Happens

1-2

Kathmandu

Deep cultural program. Bhaktapur overnight at The Nanee (Housewife’s Morning, Chef’s Table). Patan artisan day (Shakya bronze workshop, singing bowls). Boudhanath kora.

6

Dhulikhel → Pokhara

Morning: final wellness session. Afternoon flight KTM-Pokhara (25 min). Check in at Tiger Mountain or Pavilions. Evening: Phewa Lake sunset boat.

7-9

Annapurna Foothills Trek

3-day Ker & Downey circuit. Birethanti → Ghandruk → Dhampus. Max 1,981 m. Half-day walks. Luxury lodges. Hot water bottles. Massages. Gurung villages. Machhapuchhre views.

10

Pokhara rest

Return from the trek. Spa. Lake. Sarangkot sunrise drive. Celebration dinner at Vrikshya.

11-12

Chitwan + Depart

Flight to Chitwan. 2-night safari: dawn Jeep, afternoon Jeep (two safari sessions doubles tiger probability), canoe, bush dinner. Day 12: Return to KTM. Krishnarpan 22-course farewell. VIP departure.

What do the extra 2 days buy over the 10-day: Dhulikhel wellness AND the Annapurna foothills trek, AND Chitwan gets 2 nights instead of 1. The itinerary stops feeling compressed. You have a rest day after the trek.

Chitwan gets a second Jeep safari. The pace shifts from efficient to comfortable. Cost: $8,000- $ 12,000 per person.

14-Day Itinerary: The Trans-Himalayan

Day

Location

What Happens

1-3

Kathmandu

Deep program: Bhaktapur overnight (The Nanee). Patan artisan day. Boudhanath kora + Rinpoche audience ($200- $ 500). Champadevi dawn hike. Krishnarpan. BARC.

4

Helicopter Everest

5-9

Mustang

Flight KTM → Jomsom. Shinta Mani Mustang. 5-night all-inclusive. Bensley Adventure Butler. Horseback on Mustang ponies. Chef Kamala’s kitchen table. Lubra Bon village. Muktinath 108 fountains. Amchi herbal wellness. Mountain picnics with rosé. Hot tubs. Open bar.

10

Mustang → Pokhara

Morning flight Jomsom → Pokhara. Arrive by noon. Pavilions Himalayas. Afternoon: Phewa Lake sunset boat. Evening: Vrikshya dinner.

11-12

Chitwan

Flight to Chitwan. Meghauli Serai. 2-night intensive: two Jeep safaris, canoe, walking safari, bush dinner. Tiger tracking with a senior naturalist.

13

Chitwan → Lumbini

Drive to Lumbini (4-5 hours). Afternoon: Sacred Garden. Maya Devi Temple. Ashoka Pillar. Puskarni pool. Evening: World Peace Pagoda sunset. Buddha Maya Garden Hotel.

14

Lumbini → KTM → Depart

Morning: Monastic Zone walk (Myanmar Golden Temple, Chinese Zhong Hua). Flight Bhairahawa → KTM. Afternoon free. VIP departure.

What the extra days buy: Mustang. Five nights at Shinta Mani Mustang ($10,500/couple all-inclusive) — the trans-Himalayan desert, the Amchi doctor, the horseback, the Bon village, the floor-to-ceiling Nilgiri views. Plus Lumbini (the birthplace of Buddha) as the spiritual bookend. Plus Kathmandu gets three full days of deep cultural immersion instead of two. This is the complete Nepal at the highest level. Cost: $15,000- $ 22,000 per person.

The 14-Day Alternative: Replace Mustang with a Long Trek

If you want physical immersion instead of Mustang luxury, replace Days 5-9 with the full ABC trek (7 days from Pokhara; Ker & Downey lodges lower; enhanced teahouse upper; helicopter return from ABC).

Or the Gokyo Lakes trek (10 days from Lukla, MLN lodges to Namche, Gokyo Ri sunrise). This version costs $10,000-15,000/person instead of $15,000-22,000 because the trek replaces the Shinta Mani all-inclusive. You trade desert luxury for mountain endurance.

OUR RECOMMENDATION

If this is your first time: 10 days. You get the Golden Triangle (heritage, helicopter, safari) plus either the Poon Hill trek or the Dhulikhel wellness program. It is the length where Nepal shifts from a sampler to an experience. If you have been before: 14 days. Go to Mustang, Bardia, or Gokyo — the places that the first trip could not reach.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many days do I need in Nepal?

Minimum 7 for a meaningful luxury experience (Kathmandu + helicopter Everest + Pokhara + Chitwan). Recommended 10 for the Golden Triangle plus a trek or wellness. Ideal 12 for everything without rushing. Maximum impact 14 for Mustang, Bardia, or a long trek.

What is the Golden Triangle?

Kathmandu (heritage) + Pokhara (lakeside and mountains) + Chitwan (safari). The three-zone circuit that every first-time luxury visitor should do. Fits in 7 days. Forms the backbone of the 10 and 12-day itineraries.

Can I do Nepal in 5 days?

You can, but you are sampling. 5 days: Kathmandu (2 nights) + helicopter Everest + Chitwan (2 nights). No Pokhara. No trek. No wellness. No Lumbini. If you only have 5 days, do the Kathmandu Valley properly rather than spreading thin.

What does the 10-day add over the 7-day?

The Poon Hill trek (5 days, Himalayan sunrise from 3,210m, luxury lodges, rhododendron forests, Gurung village) OR a 3-night Dhulikhel Ayurvedic wellness program. The extra days shift the Himalayan experience from observation to immersion.

What does the 12-day add over the 10-day?

Both a trek AND wellness. Plus, Chitwan gets 2 nights instead of 1 (doubling your safari sessions and tiger-spotting chances). Plus a rest day after the trek. The trip stops feeling compressed. This is the length we call the sweet spot.

What does the 14-day add over the 12-day?

Mustang (Shinta Mani, 5 nights all-inclusive, $10,500/couple) OR a long trek (ABC, Gokyo) OR Bardia (Tiger Tops Karnali, walking safaris). Plus Lumbini as the spiritual bookend. Plus Kathmandu gets 3 deep cultural days. Nothing is sacrificed.

Which itinerary includes a trek?

10-day: Poon Hill (5 days, 3,210m). 12-day: Annapurna Foothills (3-4 days, Ker & Downey, max 1,981m). 14-day alternative: full ABC (7 days, 4,130m) or Gokyo Lakes (10 days, 5,357m). The 7-day itinerary has no trek — it uses a helicopter for access to the mountains.

Which itinerary includes Mustang?

Only the 14-day Trans-Himalayan. Shinta Mani Mustang requires a 5-night minimum. That commitment cannot fit into shorter itineraries without eliminating Chitwan or Pokhara entirely.

Can you customize these itineraries?

Every itinerary we build is custom. These four frameworks are starting points. You tell us your priorities (mountains, culture, wildlife, wellness, or all) and your available days. We rearrange the zones accordingly. The 12-day period is the most flexible — enough days to accommodate almost any mix of priorities.

What is the best time for each length?

All four itineraries work in spring (mid-March to mid-June) and autumn (mid-October to mid-December). The 7-day work year-round (Chitwan is best in winter and spring). The 10- and 12-day treks are best in October-November and March-April. The 14-day stay with Mustang is best in October-November (Shinta Mani closes during the monsoon).

The Final Word

Seven days is a highlight reel. Ten days is an experience. Twelve is the sweet spot. Fourteen is the complete country. Every extra day you give Nepal buys you something you cannot buy in fewer days: the trek that replaces the helicopter, the wellness program that replaces the rushed schedule, the Mustang desert that replaces the familiar circuit, the second safari that finds the tiger. The mountain is the same height at 7 days and at 14. The difference is how much of the country you see around it.

Tell us how many days you have. We will show you exactly what those days buy.
