Alpine Luxury Treks runs 15 private luxury Bhutan tours — cultural journeys, treks, and festival trips of 5–24 days, priced from US$5,500 with the SDF included.

Luxury Bhutan tours with us are private by structure, not by upgrade. Every trip on this page runs with your own licensed Bhutanese guide, your own driver and vehicle, and lodges we have chosen room by room.

There is no group cadence to join and no fixed departure to wait for — you pick the trip shape below, and we build your dates around it.

We plan every Bhutan journey from two desks: our Kathmandu base on Thamel Marg and our Bhutan office in Paro, ten minutes from the runway your Drukair flight lands on.

That flight is the front door to all fifteen trips — a descent between forested ridges into a valley at 2,200 metres, with Kanchenjunga and, on clear mornings, Everest off the left wing from Kathmandu.

What the price includes — and what the SDF actually is.

Bhutan charges every international visitor a Sustainable Development Fee of US$100 per person per night, which funds the kingdom's free healthcare, free education, and the upkeep of its trails and forests.

We include it in every price you see on this page, along with the one-time US$40 visa fee, which we process for you — the full mechanics are in our Bhutan SDF and visa guide.  The figure beside each trip is the figure — no government fees added on the invoice.

The fifteen trips divide into four shapes: cultural journeys through the western and central valleys — covered in depth in luxury Bhutan, valley by valley — camping treks from six days to the full 24-day Snowman, festival tours timed to the tshechu calendar, and one Nepal–Bhutan combination. The honest guidance runs through each card below — including the parts luxury does not change, like the two-hour climb to Tiger's Nest that every guest still walks on their own legs.

Cultural journeys

1. Bhutan in Five Days

  •  A Short Luxury Tour — 5 days
  •  Thimphu • Paro · from US$9,500.
  • The tightest trip we run in Bhutan: Thimphu's working capital, the Tiger's Nest climb, a farmhouse lunch, archery, and a Ruins Dinner under the stars. Built for travellers folding Bhutan into a longer Himalayan itinerary.

2. Luxury Bhutan Tour

  •  10 days · Paro • Thimphu • Punakha • Phobjikha • Bumthang · from US$11,560. Our flagship. The full western-and-central arc in ten days — dzongs, the glacial Phobjikha bowl, and Bumthang's temple valleys — at a pace that leaves afternoons unscheduled. → View the flagship 10-day tour

3. Best of Bhutan Tour

  • 14 days · Paro • Thimphu • Punakha • Gangtey • Bumthang · from US$13,500. The unhurried version of the same country: fourteen days with domestic flights doing the long legs, so road time shrinks and valley time grows. → View the 14-day tour

4. Eastern Bhutan Luxury Tour

  • 13 days · west to east through Bumthang to Mongar • Trashigang · from US$16,500. The road less driven — across the country to valleys most visitors never reach, timed where possible to the Gomkora Tshechu, with a domestic flight back so you never repeat the road. Fair warning we give every guest: eastern driving days are long, and that is the price of having the east to yourself. → View the Eastern Bhutan tour

5. Luxury Bhutan Honeymoon

  • 6 days · Punakha • Paro · from US$13,500. Six days built for two: riverside dinners, a private monastery blessing, the Tiger's Nest hike, and the top tier of lodges in Punakha and Paro. → View the honeymoon

Treks

6. Bhutan Bumdra Trek

  • 6 days · Thimphu • Chele La • Bumdra camp • Tiger's Nest · from US$5,500. One night camped at roughly 3,800 metres above the Paro Valley, then a descent that arrives at Tiger's Nest from above — the only way to reach the monastery before the day crowds climb to it. → View the Bumdra Trek

7. Bhutan Druk Path Trek

  • 11 days · Paro to Thimphu over the ridgeline · from US$11,500. The classic high traverse between Bhutan's two main valleys, past alpine lakes above 4,000 metres, with full camp support carried for you. → View the Druk Path Trek

8. Bhutan Jomolhari Trek

  •  11 days · Paro Valley to Jangothang, below Jomolhari · from US$7,500. Eleven days to the base of the sacred mountain and back over two high passes, with refined camping and a Tiger's Nest day built in for acclimatisation. → View the Jomolhari Trek

9. Luxury Snowman Trek

  • 24 days · Laya • Lunana • eleven passes · price on application. One of the hardest commercial treks in the Himalaya, run in its private-supported form through Lunana's roadless villages. We say this plainly: it is a serious expedition first and a luxury trip second, and we vet fitness before we confirm it. → View the Snowman Trek

Festival tours

Festival dates follow the lunar calendar; we confirm exact dates at booking and build the trip around them.

10. Paro Tshechu Festival Tour

  • 8 days · Paro • the western valleys, spring · from US$12,500. Reserved seating at Bhutan's largest spring festival, ending with the pre-dawn unfurling of the Guru Thongdrel — a moment most tour groups sleep through, and we never do. → View the Paro Tshechu tour

11. Thimphu Tshechu Festival Tour

  • 7 days · Thimphu • Paro, autumn · from US$11,500 The capital's great autumn tshechu with reserved festival seating and private mask-dance viewings, paired with the Tiger's Nest climb in the year's clearest air. → View the Thimphu Tshechu tour

  • 7 days · Dochula Pass • Punakha • Paro, winter · from US$9,500 The one-day festival among the 108 chortens at Dochula, at 3,100 metres with the high Himalaya as backdrop — winter's quietest, sharpest week in Bhutan. → View the Druk Wangyel tour

13. Ura Yakchoe Festival Tour

  • 9 days · Thimphu • Punakha • Bumthang's Ura Valley, spring · from US$12,500 A village festival almost no foreign visitors reach, in Bumthang's highest settled valley — the counterpoint to the big-name tshechus. → View the Ura Yakchoe tour

14. Black-Necked Crane Festival Tour

  •  8 days · Thimphu • Punakha • Phobjikha, late autumn · from US$12,500 Timed to the cranes' arrival in the Phobjikha wetland and the festival held in their honour at Gangtey — Bhutan's conservation story, watched from the courtyard where it is danced. → View the Crane Festival tour

Nepal & Bhutan combined

15. Nepal and Bhutan Luxury Tour

  • 11 days · Kathmandu • Paro • Thimphu • Punakha · from US$12,550 Two kingdoms in one arc, joined by the hour-and-a-quarter Kathmandu–Paro flight past the eastern Himalaya. FAQs

How much does a luxury Bhutan tour cost per person?

Our luxury Bhutan tours run from US$5,500 for the six-day Bumdra Trek to US$16,500 for thirteen days across the country to the east. Most seven-to-ten-day private trips fall between US$9,500 and US$13,500 per person, with the US$100-per-night Sustainable Development Fee and the US$40 visa already included in those figures. Lodge tier, domestic flights, and trip length drive the differences; the line-by-line breakdown is in how much a Bhutan trip really costs.

What is the best month for a luxury Bhutan tour?

April and October are the two months we book most, and for good reason. April brings the Paro Tshechu, rhododendron bloom, and mild valley weather; October and November bring the year's clearest mountain views, the Thimphu Tshechu on its heels, and the black-necked cranes arriving in Phobjikha. Winter suits the Druk Wangyel Festival and empty trails; we steer guests away from the June-to-August monsoon. Our month-by-month Bhutan guide covers every season in detail.

Who is the best luxury Bhutan tour operator?

The honest answer is a checklist, not a name. Look for genuinely private departures rather than small groups, prices that state whether the SDF is included, an operator presence inside Bhutan rather than a reseller chain, and itineraries specific enough to name passes, festivals, and valleys. We run every trip on this page privately, print SDF-inclusive prices, and plan from our own office in Paro — measure anyone, including us, against that list.

How far in advance should I book a luxury Bhutan tour?

Four to six months ahead is our working minimum for the top lodges, which hold very few rooms per valley. For the Paro and Thimphu tshechu windows, plan nine to twelve months out — festival weeks sell the western valleys' best properties first. Shorter notice is workable outside festival season; ask, and we will tell you plainly what is still available.

Is Bhutan's Sustainable Development Fee included in your luxury Bhutan tour prices?

Yes — every price on this page includes the SDF of US$100 per person per night, plus the one-time US$40 visa fee, both of which we process for you. The SDF funds Bhutan's free healthcare and education and the maintenance of its trails and forests. Children aged six to eleven pay a reduced rate, and children under six are exempt.

How many days do you need for a luxury Bhutan tour?

Five days cover Thimphu, Paro, and the Tiger's Nest climb well. Seven to ten days add Punakha's subtropical valley and the Phobjikha bowl, which is where Bhutan starts to breathe. Plan thirteen or fourteen days if you want Bumthang or the far east — the distances are real, and rushing them undoes the point of going.

Can a luxury Bhutan tour be combined with Nepal?

Yes, and the geography makes it easy: Kathmandu and Paro sit an hour and a quarter apart by air, past Everest and Kanchenjunga on a clear day. Our eleven-day Nepal and Bhutan Luxury Tour runs the two capitals and Punakha in one arc, and any Bhutan trip on this page can be extended into Nepal on request.

Do luxury Bhutan tours include trekking?

Four of our fifteen Bhutan trips are treks: the six-day Bumdra with its camp above Tiger's Nest, the eleven-day Druk Path between Paro and Thimphu, the eleven-day Jomolhari to the base of the sacred mountain, and the 24-day Snowman through Lunana. All run privately with full camp support; the cultural tours involve day walks only.

Which luxury Bhutan tours include a festival?

Five trips are built around festivals: the Paro Tshechu and Ura Yakchoe in spring, the Thimphu Tshechu and Black-Necked Crane Festival in autumn, and the Druk Wangyel at Dochula Pass in winter. Festival dates follow the lunar calendar, so we confirm exact dates at booking and shape the itinerary around the days that matter.
