What the price includes — and what the SDF actually is.

Bhutan charges every international visitor a Sustainable Development Fee of US$100 per person per night, which funds the kingdom's free healthcare, free education, and the upkeep of its trails and forests.

We include it in every price you see on this page, along with the one-time US$40 visa fee, which we process for you — the full mechanics are in our Bhutan SDF and visa guide.  The figure beside each trip is the figure — no government fees added on the invoice.

Our luxury Bhutan tours run from US$5,500 for the six-day Bumdra Trek to US$16,500 for thirteen days across the country to the east. Most seven-to-ten-day private trips fall between US$9,500 and US$13,500 per person, with the US$100-per-night Sustainable Development Fee and the US$40 visa already included in those figures. What is the best month for a luxury Bhutan tour?

April and October are the two months we book most, and for good reason. April brings the Paro Tshechu, rhododendron bloom, and mild valley weather; October and November bring the year's clearest mountain views, the Thimphu Tshechu on its heels, and the black-necked cranes arriving in Phobjikha. Who is the best luxury Bhutan tour operator?

The honest answer is a checklist, not a name. Look for genuinely private departures rather than small groups, prices that state whether the SDF is included, an operator presence inside Bhutan rather than a reseller chain, and itineraries specific enough to name passes, festivals, and valleys. How far in advance should I book a luxury Bhutan tour?

Four to six months ahead is our working minimum for the top lodges, which hold very few rooms per valley. For the Paro and Thimphu tshechu windows, plan nine to twelve months out — festival weeks sell the western valleys' best properties first. Shorter notice is workable outside festival season; ask, and we will tell you plainly what is still available.

Is Bhutan's Sustainable Development Fee included in your luxury Bhutan tour prices?

Yes — every price on this page includes the SDF of US$100 per person per night, plus the one-time US$40 visa fee, both of which we process for you. The SDF funds Bhutan's free healthcare and education and the maintenance of its trails and forests. Children aged six to eleven pay a reduced rate, and children under six are exempt.

How many days do you need for a luxury Bhutan tour?

Five days cover Thimphu, Paro, and the Tiger's Nest climb well. Seven to ten days add Punakha's subtropical valley and the Phobjikha bowl, which is where Bhutan starts to breathe. Plan thirteen or fourteen days if you want Bumthang or the far east — the distances are real, and rushing them undoes the point of going.

Can a luxury Bhutan tour be combined with Nepal?

Yes, and the geography makes it easy: Kathmandu and Paro sit an hour and a quarter apart by air, past Everest and Kanchenjunga on a clear day. Do luxury Bhutan tours include trekking?

Four of our fifteen Bhutan trips are treks: the six-day Bumdra with its camp above Tiger's Nest, the eleven-day Druk Path between Paro and Thimphu, the eleven-day Jomolhari to the base of the sacred mountain, and the 24-day Snowman through Lunana. All run privately with full camp support; the cultural tours involve day walks only.
